Fillers…what???

With a lot of public press regarding dermal fillers circulating lately I would love to address any concerns or stigmas you may have

Firstly what are dermal fillers and who can get them.

Dermal fillers are a gel like substance containing hyaluronic acid, which naturally occurs in our bodies. Dermal fillers are injected under the skin with a very fine, small needle to the desired areas. Dermal fillers are broken down by the body in around 6-9 months and are not permanent.

Any body - any sex, age (over 18s), ethnicity, skin type and race can get dermal fillers once a thorough medical history has been preformed to ensure safe practise is achievable.

Secondly what are the bad things or what can go wrong with dermal fillers.

An untrained or a under skilled injector can inject into a vein or artery causing damage to area and surrounding areas. This is why my skills are up to date with both the dental council of Ireland and the training provided for dermal fillers. There are a number of steps I follow to ensure safe injection technique is undertaken and if an area is too vascular,I will avoid.

After injections are administered you may expect to see some bruising, swelling and even some marks from the injections. Normally the areas that are being filled are a structurally thin area and an area that has lost volume causing this area to be already more vulnerable to bruising and swelling. This is normal for up to 5 days after.

Lastly, why choose me to inject you.

I am trained in dental hygiene for almost 10 years and have been working in dentistry for 16 years. Part of our training in the dental hospital was to identify and examine head and neck anatomy by looking at cadavers in a lab setting. We saw the layers of skin, muscle and fat as well as nerves veins and arteries right in front of us and had to identify all of these in order to pass head and neck anatomy.

Part of my dental hygiene day involves in me injecting patients to ensure they are numb for treatment, this takes a lot of practise and skill to get right and again with the knowledge of the cadaver heads it is achievable.

A person who is highly skilled in head and neck anatomy with experience of injecting should be top choice in choosing an injector.
